Following the recent unveiling of the Renaultsport Megane R26.R, Vauxhall are said to be considering a stripped-out version of the Astra VXR to take the battle to Renault and Ford’s new Focus RS.

The Astra VXR is already a decent hot hatch, and with the use of lightweight materials and removal of unnecessary bits such as soundproofing and the rear seats, it should be sharpened up nicely. Hopefully the engineers might be able to tame the standard VXR’s tendency to torque steer while they’re working on it.
