I do feel sorry for the SEAT Mii. While the almost identical Volkswagen up! is the centre of attention, the Mii is left in the corner of the room with no-one to talk to. Even the third member of the triplets, the Skoda Citigo, is enjoying more of the limelight than the shy little Mii.

SEAT Mii FR Line

So it’s encouraging to see that SEAT are giving the Mii an image boost in time for this year’s Wörthersee GTI festival, mecca for fans of all things to do with the VAG group.

This is the Mii FR Line concept, a pimped up version of the humble Mii that offers more than a hint of sporty aggression. Painted in a bright shade of Tornado Red, the Mii uses contrasting black to great effect to make this look every inch the pocket racer. Add a spoiler and black 16-inch wheels and you’ve suddenly got a car that looks very different in character. The colour theme continues on the inside with extremely red seats and dashboard covered in bold FR lettering.

FR Line's interior not for the faint-hearted

Sadly that’s as far as it goes. Don’t expect a more powerful engine or sporty chassis tuning … not yet, at least. While there is currently no intention to make a faster Mii, the opportunity may arise if the Volkswagen up! GT proves to be a hit. Then we’ll have a Mii worthy of the FR badge.

When I recently had the opportunity to drive the Range Rover Evoque I wasn’t sure what to expect. My earlier impressions of Range Rovers and Land Rovers had been clouded by a pair of knackered Discoveries and a very tatty Freelander.

A rising star - the Range Rover Evoque

Fortunately the Evoque turned out to be better than that. Much better. It drives incredibly well, it has that upmarket feel that you’d expect from a car bearing the Range Rover name, and there are some very nice design features to discover.

In fact the Evoque is turning into something of a rising star in the world of UK manufacturing. It is proving to be such a global hit that production has had to be increased to cope with demand, and that means 300 new jobs have been created at the Land Rover plant in Halewood, near Liverpool.

There’s also the not insignificant matter of another £1 billion being spent with UK suppliers, making Jaguar Land Rover’s commitment to the UK supply chain a staggering £3 billion over the next four years.

At the moment there seems to be very little that the Evoque can do wrong. Even Mrs Beckham, who was originally touted as influencing the design of the Evoque, has returned to Range Rover to produce a limited edition of the compact off-roader. The result is a tidy-looking creation dressed in dark grey paint with interior leather chosen by Mrs Beckham.

At an eye-watering £79,995 it is little more than an extravagant marketing exercise, and will doubtless only be bought by well-heeled Victoria fans, but it does keep the Evoque range squarely in the sights of potential customers.

Meanwhile, in more down-to-earth publications, the Evoque is winning all sorts of awards. It was recently voted Car Of The Year by Diesel Car magazine, as well as Best Crossover, with the judges acclaiming the Evoque as “stunning to look at and stunning to drive … a car that is instantly a classic”. Parkers declared it their top 4×4 in their New Car Awards for 2012. It was World Design Car Of The Year … the list goes on. As things stand, the Range Rover Evoque has won 103 awards across the globe.

Take a look for yourself in the following video review. Looks good, doesn’t it?

So, expect to see a lot more of the Evoque on the road and when you do, just remember that it is one of the few good things going for the British economy at the moment.

When I was a lad, before I hit the magical seventeen years of age and acquired my driving license, there were a number of cars I really, really wanted to drive. These were the hot hatches of the day, usually owned by friends of friends or their older brothers. Cars like the Fiesta Xr2i, Peugeot 205 GTI and Golf GTI.

Nowadays these are increasingly being awarded ‘classic’ status, instantly making me feel older than I really am.They’re reaching the point where numbers are staring to dwindle and the ones that are left are being snapped up by enthusiasts, and that in turn is starting to push up prices.

If you’re interested in cars like this then you should keep an eye out for an auction happening soon at Brooklands. Historics, the classic and sports car auctioneer, are bringing four ‘modern classics’ to its sale on Saturday 26th May.

These are cars that I remember fondly. The Fiesta XR2i, for example, appeared in 1981 and was a huge success, providing a lot of teenagers with their first taste of performance motoring. The 1981 model presented by Historics has benefitted from a full, ground-up restoration, including bare metal re-spray and engine rebuild, and arrives at auction in immaculate condition.

1981 Ford Fiesta XR2i

This particular XR2i is one of only 30 such examples known to exist. That makes the expected price of between £6,000 and £8,000 sound entirely plausible, and if you’re looking for depreciation free motoring then it is worth a punt.

Likewise the 205 GTI. The standard 205 revitalised Peugeots image and sales success, and the GTI is widely acknowledged to be one of the best hot hatches of all time.

1990 Peugeot 205 GTI

Historics’ Peugeot 205 GTI is a 1990 1.6-litre model that has had one owner from new (yes, just one). Expectations are that it will fetch somewhere between £4,000 and £6,000, which sounds like something of a bargain to me.

Of course, you can’t talk about 80s hot hatches without mentioning the Mk1 Golf GTI, the car that kicked off the mass appeal of the hot hatch when it was first release in 1977.

1989 Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk1 Cabriolet

This particular Golf isn’t the hatchback version of the Mk1 GTI but is instead the cabriolet, sharing the same mechanicals but without a solid roof. this one has been upgraded with the ‘Clipper’ kit that brings body-coloured bumpers, wheel arch extensions and side skirts. There’s no reserve on it so it will be sold on the day.

Also going up for sale with no reserve is a 1989 Lancia Delta HF Integrale KAT. Another car to win numerous awards and plaudits, the Lancia Delta Integrale was the basis for the back-to-back World Rally championship winning car.

1989 Lancia Delta HF Integrale KAT

The KAT model was a special model for the Swiss market and, like all unmodified Integales, is left-hand drive. This one features the renowned bottom end of the 16 valve engine, combined with the reliable turbo-charged top end of the eight valve unit, to deliver the best mix of peak performance and durability.

“We’ve been excited to see a new generation of potential classic car collectors and enthusiasts attending our sales, driven in part by successful cars of this era.

“Large production numbers are an obvious indicator of success, but as always, it’s immaculate examples that will command the top prices and drive future interest” – Edward Bridger-Stille, Historics’ Auction Director.

Get in there if you want to snap up a future classic. All four of these cars are likely to appreciate in value if you look after them. If I had a few grand spare I’d be after one for myself.

Can a few spicy ingredients transform the Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring from an ordinary hot hatch into really hot stuff? I spent a few hours with Vauxhall’s fastest Corsa in an effort to find out.

Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring Review

The Corsa VXR has been around since 2007 and has remained largely untouched, apart from a mild facelift last year. With 189bhp it can hit 60mph in 6.8 seconds, one of the quicker times in the supermini sector, but the VXR has dropped from favour as newer rivals have arrived on the scene. So what’s a manufacturer to do? Bring on a new ‘special edition’, of course.

In the Corsa’s case this is much more than a bright paint job with a set of stickers and new alloys. What Vauxhall have done is invest some serious effort into creating a very special ‘special edition’. The Corsa VXR Nurburgring has been treated to a host of mechanical revisions that promise to revitalise this junior hot hatch.

So what are the spicy ingredients that have been added to the Corsa VXR? The upgrades start with a new chassis setup, where Vauxhall have worked with Bilstein to produce a bespoke set of springs and dampers. The new setup was honed on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, hence this model’s name, and it promises even more control and faster responses than before. Another outcome is a lower ride height, dropped by 20mm at the front and 15mm at the rear.

Lower ride height gives Nurburgring a real hunkered-down stance

Next we have the brakes and wheels. Brembo stepped in to fit a new set of stoppers, consisting of four-piston calipers, bigger discs and bigger pads for improved braking performance. The new brake setup is 30% lighter than standard and, when combined with lighter 18-inch forged alloy wheels (200g lighter per wheel) it means that the VXR is carrying less unsprung weight. That in turn improves grip and steering response.

Finally, and most significantly, we get to the limited-slip differential. Designed by Drexler, this is a proper mechanical device that helps to shuffle torque to whichever of the front wheels has most grip. A mechanical LSD may be more expensive than the electronic systems favoured on other hot hatches, but it gives superior response and a much more natural feel.

The extra power is liberated by reprogramming the ECU, running on 98-Ron unleaded fuel, and fitting a new stainless steel exhaust system that reduces back pressure. The result is an extra 13bhp and 15lb/ft of torque.

It Won’t Blend Into A Crowd

You shouldn’t find it too hard to spot a Corsa VXR Nurburgring. Hunkered down on its lowered suspension, you could initially mistake it for a standard VXR that’s been treated to some aftermarket suspension, but look more closely and you’ll find Nurburgring logos all over. There’s a logo on the B pillar, the door sills feature special kick plates, the seats feature another Nordschleife logo and the dashboard holds the numbered plaque that denotes this as a true limited edition – there will only be 500 Nurburgrings sold, 250 of which are coming to the UK.

Having just mentioned the seats, I should point out that the front seats are a pair of hip hugging Recaros trimmed in black leather. They are supportive in all the right places and feature sizable bolsters on the sides. Those bolsters are not just there for decoration either as you really start to appreciate them once you start to tackle the corners.

There is a choice of four colours, starting with black and white as the more mundane options, but you’ll really want to choose either the metallic Chilli Orange of this car or the very bright pearlescent Lime Green.

The anthracite alloys are another key feature, as is the pair of exhaust pipes jutting out from beneath the rear bumper with its unique diffuser. Step around to the front and you will find a prominent splitter, so beware of low kerbs.

Adjust Your Benchmarks

If you’ve driven a normal Corsa VXR before, or most of the current crop of supermini-based hot hatches, then driving the Corsa Nurburgring will adjust most of your benchmarks. In every aspect of its performance the Nurburgring is right up there with the best in class. For a start it is quick in a straight line, with a 0-60mph time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 143mph.

The Nurburgring’s extra power means you can now launch the Corsa away from the lights and down straights with increased gusto, snapping through the closely stacked ratios of the six-speed manual gearbox. The new twin-pipe exhaust adds to the sense of occasion with a distinct bark. It’s a good system, not excessively loud and without the boominess of some aftermarket exhausts.

Twin exhausts are a bit of a giveaway that this is a Nurburgring edition

You will probably have seen the review of the Corsa Nurburgring on a well-known TV show, where the reviewer may (May, geddit?) have criticised the Corsa for its painfully stiff ride. Well, I wouldn’t want to question the experience of such a well known motoring journalist … oh, what the hell … he’s being a total drama queen. Yes, the Corsa does have a very stiff ride but it’s not much worse than a number of other hot hatches and it’s far from being unusable on the road. Has the development time on the Nordschleife ruined the car? No.

He’s being a total drama queen

So you’re bombing down a straight and you spy a sharp corner ahead. Worry not, because that Brembo setup will scrub speed off faster than you can think ‘oh god, I’m going too fast.’ The Corsa’s nose dives towards the tarmac but it remains resolutely on course with no squirming, and now it’s time to turn in.

The steering is sharp, if a little over-assisted and short on feel, but there’s no sensation of slack as you steer the Corsa into the bend. It tucks in immediately with no discernible roll, the upside of that stiffer suspension. Grip levels are high thanks to the sticky low-profile 225/35 Continental rubber stretched around those 18-inch alloys.

Now you get to discover the true magic of the Corsa Nurburgring. Hit the accelerator early in the corner in a standard Corsa VXR and you’d be quickly washing wide of the apex, ESP light flickering as it cut the power to bring the nose back into line. In the Nurburgring you can feel the differential at work, shuffling the torque between the wheels, and the result is uncanny traction. Instead of running wide the nose pulls more tightly into the corner, speed building as it does so. The result is an almighty slingshot out of the corner and your internal organs re-arranged to one side of your rib cage.

I’m sure that if you were to lap an empty roundabout at ever-increasing speed then it would be your stomach that let go if its contents before the Corsa let go of the tarmac. I didn’t try it, but if you get a chance please do let me know how many laps you lasted.

So It’s Great To Drive, What About The Rest?

The asking price of the Corsa VXR Nurburgring is rather high at £22,305. You are getting a lot of special hardware from some well-known manufacturers included in the package, but £22k for a supermini is going to put some people off.

The price is even harder to justify when you look at the interior. There’s a lot of hard plastic on show in the cabin and the controls don’t have the nice, damped feeling of some of the more premium (and cheaper) rivals.

Standard kit levels are reasonable with air-con, electric windows, electrically powered and heated mirrors, and CD/MP3-compatible stereo as standard. Some of the nicer features fitted to this car were options, including the sat-nav, automatic lights and rain-sensing wipers. The Recaro seats are standard but it costs extra to upgrade from cloth to leather.

Recaro seats are superb, rest of cabin not so good

Running costs aren’t cheap either. Car tax will cost £315 in year one and £200 each year after, insurance is group 34D on the 50 group scale and your fuel bill will be high. Officially the Nurburgring can manage 37.2mpg on the combined cycle, but in my short encounter I only briefly saw the trip computer read over 30mpg and after 70 miles of enthusiastic driving it managed only 26mpg.

The Final Reckoning

If you want a lively, exciting and enormously entertaining hot hatch then you should seriously consider the Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring. This is easily one of the best, if not the best, car to come out of Luton for some time.

Look more closely at the price tag and you’ll see that the Corsa isn’t too far from its main competitors, costing a bit more than a lower-specced Renaultsport Clio 200 Cup but cheaper than a Mini JCW. Head-to-head the Clio might win on outright handling but the turbo-assisted torque of the Corsa’s engine will claw back the deficit.

The stiff ride will not be to everyone’s taste and certainly won’t appeal to your passengers. If you’re unlucky enough to spend most of your time stuck in traffic then this really isn’t the right car for you. However, if you can get out on to the right roads on a quiet weekend morning, or even better dare to risk your pride and joy on a track day, then the Corsa Nurburgring won’t fail to bring a smile to your face.

To put it simply, the Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring is brilliant.

Vauxhall have released the performance figures for their new Astra VXR and its going to be quick. Very quick.

Vauxhall Astra VXR Talks The Torque is a post from Driving Spirit.

With 400Nm of torque and power output of 280PS there is no question that the 2012 Vauxhall Astra VXR will be properly quick, but look past those figures and you’ll see that the VXR offers much, much more than straight line performance.

2012 Vauxhall Astra VXR features upgraded components from Sachs, Brembo and Drexler.

High Torque

That figure of 400Nm means the Astra VXR has the highest specific torque of any of its rivals. Extracted from an upgraded version of the Insignia’s 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injected petrol engine, the Astra VXR will hit 60mph in just 5.9 seconds and reach 155mph flat out.

That high torque output is no accident as Vauxhall’s mechanics have concentrated on mid-range ability rather than all-out power. Peak torque is available from 2,450rpm up to 5,000rpm, which should give the Astra VXR a very muscular feel on the open road.

The engine revisions include a new air intake system, new turbocharger running at 25% greater boost (1.5bar) and a unique aluminium cylinder head fitted to the Insignia’s aluminium block.

More Traction

With that huge dollop of torque being channeled through the front wheels you would expect there to be some torque steer. However, Vauxhall are serious about taking the fight to Renault and Ford and have gifted the VXR with a proper mechanical limited-slip differential. This is a revised version of the same system fitted to the Corsa VXR Nurburgring which, as I discovered recently, transforms the Corsa into a proper weapon with an insane appetite for corners.

The Astra VXR is also fitted with a modified version of Vauxhall’s HiPerStrut system that has seen action on the Insignia and Astra GTC. It helps to reduce camber changes in cornering, improve steering feel and (more importantly in the VXR’s case) filter out unnecessary torque steer.

Look through the spokes of the standard 19-inch alloys and you’ll be able to see a Brembo logo on the brake calipers, another feature that the Astra VXR shares with the Corsa Nurburgring. Fitted as standard, the Brembo system uses larger drilled discs and calipers to improve stopping power and reduce brake fade.

Brembo braking systems uses drilled discs to reduce heat build-up

The suspension has been fettled by ZF Sachs, who have worked on the dampers, while Vauxhall have fitted stiffer springs for more body control. The result is a 10mm lower ride height than the GTC model, and new stiffer suspension bushes and rear suspension promise to deliver a more connected feel to the ride.

Just like the Corsa Nurburgring, the new Astra VXR has spent a lot of time testing on the Nordschleife. It has covered over 6,000 miles on the northern loop of the Nurburgring at race pace to prove that the engine is strong and reliable enough.

Choices, Choices

Vauxhall’s FlexiRide adaptive damping system is also standard on the VXR. This gives you the choice of three different chassis settings with the press of a button, from ‘Standard’ for everyday driving, ‘Sport’ for more controlled feeling and the new ‘VXR’ mode. This switches the suspension to its stiffest setting, sharpens up throttle response and illuminates the dials with a red glow.

The damping system has three settings and so does the ESP stability control system. Normally it is set to maximum safety mode to make sure you don’t throw your Astra into a hedge. Switch it to ‘Competitive’ mode and the threshold at which the system steps in is increased, although it’s always there in the background, ready to help out if really necessary. Then there’s ‘ESP off’, should you feel brave enough.

Friendlier To Polar Bears

Finally there’s the question of economy, not a top priority for prospective hot hatch buyers. Despite the increases in power and torque, the Astra VXR reduces its official thirst for fuel by 14%, thanks largely to the Start/Stop technology fitted as standard. The official EU combined cycle figure 34.9mpg, while CO2 emissions drop down to 189g/km.

What do you do if your Go Pro Hero 2 rattles all over the audio? Take it to pieces of course!

Fixing The Go Pro Rattle is a post from Driving Spirit.

A couple of months ago I invested in a Go Pro Hero 2 video camera, intending to record some of my in-car exploits to go along with the reviews. While I was immediately impressed with the HD visuals recorded by the tiny camera, I quickly realised that the audio suffered from a terrible rattling noise. Watch the clip below for an example:

With the Go Pro mounted anywhere on a car, as soon as it was travelling at anything above walking pace there would be a constant rattle that dominated the soundtrack. At first I thought this was coming from the mount, so I made sure that everything was tightened up nicely and tried again. No, still rattling.

After a bit of head scratching and various experiments I thought it was just some movement of the camera within the Go Pro’s transparent mounting case and it was something I’d have to live with. I decided to start looking at alternatives for recording the audio.

However, I recently realised that the rattle was coming from inside the Go Pro itself, not the mounting case. Gently shaking the camera revealed a light rattle but when I pressed the top shutter button down the rattle went away. OK, so it’s a fault inside the Go Pro, but how do you fix it?

A bit of searching on the internet forums led to some advice. Basically you crack open the case, stick some sponge underneath the shutter button, and Bob’s your uncle – the rattling disappears. So here is my mini-tutorial on how to fix the infamous Go Pro rattling.

First things first – take some brave pills! This is going to invalidate any warranty your Go Pro may have and you run the risk of destroying it, so don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Next you need a jeweller’s screwdriver with a cross head and a piece of sponge. A normal car sponge will do, or some of that grey stuff you get in packaging.

Step 1 - find and undo the four screws

Now open your Go Pro’s back and remove the battery. In each corner you will see a black screw. Very carefully undo the screws, but beware – they thread easily. I ruined one of them and that made this much more difficult. Also, make sure you note which screw comes from which corner. The left hand screws have a different thread to those on the right, so don’t get them mixed up!

Step 2 - remove sticker and GENTLY prise case apart, starting from the right hand side

Having undone the screws, now remove the grey sticker that covers the battery compartment. Now we come to a delicate part. Carefully prise open the case, starting on the right-hand side (where the memory card fits). You have to start here because on the left side is the ribbon cable for the Backpack and the wires to the speaker. If you simply rip the case open you’ll damage those wires.

Now that you have opened the case you can work on the shutter button. Gently pull the shutter button out of the case, swinging it out to the left. Now cut a thin strip of sponge and insert it over the white button and, while holding it in place, slide the shutter button back into place. Yes, this is a bit fiddly.

Step 3 - insert sponge underneath between grey shutter button and white switch

With the shutter button back in position make sure that it still operates and you can feel it clicking. If you can’t feel the button click it may be that you’ve packed in too much sponge, so cut some away and try again.

When you’re happy with the shutter button close the case back up, carefully screw it back together and then re-try the shake test. With any luck the rattling that could be hard before will have gone. Now for the real test – put the battery back in, load the camera into its case and get out on the road to try it again.

Hopefully your Go Pro audio will be a lot clearer. Check out the brief clip below for an example of my mostly rattle-free audio. It’s still not great, there’s another more subtle vibration on the audio track, but at least the sounds in the cabin are a lot clearer.

The Nissan Juke-R, originally planned to be nothing more than an elaborately engineered publicity machine, is now set to go into limited production.

The Desert Nemesis meets its rivals

What started off as a carefully managed PR exercise has generated a huge amount of excitement in the automotive world, turning the Juke-R into a halo model that almost eclipses the GT-R on which it is based.

With a flood of appeals from car enthusiasts begging Nissan to build it and three people ready to put down a deposit, Nissan have decided to build a small number of Juke-Rs. The price is yet to be decided but is expected to be upwards of £125,000. Not exactly small change and at that price it’s going to be a very rare beast.

The original Juke-R was based on the running gear of the 2010 GT-R, but with the new improved 2012 GT-R on sale Nissan have decided to use that as the donor for production. The result is that the production-spec Juke-R will have even more power from the 3.8-litre engine, 545bhp in total, allowing it to reach 160mph flat out.

Just as Nissan announce that the Juke-R is to go into production, they have also released a special mini-movie starring the car itself. Titled ‘Desert Nemesis‘ and filmed in Dubai, it pitches the Juke-R against a fleet of supercars owned by Salah Salahuddin.

Mercedes SLS, Lamborghini Gallardo and Ferrari 458 wait for the challenger

In the film the Juke-R is driven by Spaniard Lucas Ordonez, no stranger to Nissans after he became a professional racing driver thanks to Nissan’s GT Academy competition. From Gran Turismo on the Playstation he went no to race a Nissan 350Z at last year’s Le Mans, where he finished second in class.

Here we see the gamer-turned-professional racer taking on a selection of iconic supercars on the roads of Dubai’s exclusive International Marina Club. No prizes for guessing the winner, but sit back and enjoy watching the Juke-R in action.

I’ve got a lot of love for fast Volvos, particularly the ones that have been fettled by in-house tuners Polestar. So the prospect of a S60 saloon that’s been prepared by Polestar to join in the Swedish Elite Racing Series is something that makes me feel all happy inside.

Saloon car roots of the Volvo S60 TTA are still recognisable

Keen to publicise their handiwork, Polestar have produced a brief video showing the Volvo S60 TTA tearing up the tarmac on the Nurburgring. Sadly it’s only a digital version of the car that’s been conjured up on a computer, intended to show off the racer’s Polestar Blue livery.

If the video is anything to go by the TTA remains faithful to the S60s curves. Despite the enormous wing, gaping air intakes, deep bumpers and massive wheel-arches you can still make out the handsome shape of Volvo’s saloon.

Like the V60 T6 I sampled earlier in the year, the S60 uses a V6 engine. Unlike the T6, the engine is mid-mounted and uses hybrid technology to extract over 400hp. The engine is mated to a sequential gearbox with steering column paddles, the body is made of carbon fibre and the chassis has been inspired by F1 technology.

The Nissan Juke R has to be one the most barking mad cars that have been built for some time by a major manufacturer. Taking a compact SUV and squeezing in the engine and drivetrain from a Nissan GT-R sounds like a recipe for messy handling and huge amounts of body roll.

By all accounts Nissan’s engineers have worked wonders with the Juke-R to produce a supercar-rivalling SUV that handles just as well as the coupe that donated it’s innards.

Nissan Juke-R - The Movie

So has the Juke-R has got enough performance and handling prowess to see off a selection of supercars? There’s only one way to find out … supercar fight!

Fortunately for us, Nissan were on hand to record the outcome. They’re about to release a short film, directed by Award-winning film director Rob Kaplan, that is shot in incredible high definition using state of the art camera technology.

The man behind the wheel is Lucas Ordonez, who shot to professional racing fame when he won the Gran Turismo Academy and went on to race a Nissan 350Z in the 2011 Le Mans 24Hr (finishing 2nd in class). In the film, Lucas is challenged to race the Juke-R against Salah Salahuddin’s supercar collection in Dubai.

Nissan Juke-R lines up against Ferrari 458

Sounds like it should be fun, but we’ve got another couple of days to wait for the final film. In the meantime Nissan have been kind enough to whet our appetites with some trailers that show off some of the supercar rivals, as well as the beautiful quality of the high-definition recording and slow-motion video capture.

Can the Nissan Juke-R see off the supercar elite? We’ll find out in a couple of days but for now … place your bets!

Volkswagen have confirmed that the Polo R Line they previewed earlier in the year will be coming to showrooms in the United Kingdom.

Volkswagen Polo R Line Comes To UK is a post from Driving Spirit.

The Volkswagen Polo R Line was revealed earlier in the year but there was always some doubt whether or not it was going to make it to the United Kingdom. Wonder no more as Volkswagen have confirmed that the R Line is being added to the UK Polo lineup.

Volkswagen Polo R Line

Essentially a Polo Match with a series of styling upgrades, the R Line has more than a hint of Polo GTI about it. The front features a deeper front bumper and R Line logo on the gloss black grille, deeper side sills and a set of 16-inch ‘Mallory’ wheels. The rear windows receive a nice, dark tint , while the front fog lights are upgraded with a new static cornering function.

Open the door and the first thing you’ll see are the brushed aluminium scuff plates with R Line logos. The seats feature more side support and are covered in ‘Kyalami’ cloth with R Line logos stitched into the headrests. The R Line logo also appears on the leather-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, the pedals are covered in aluminium caps, and the roof lining is switched to black cloth. It’s another classy interior from Volkswagen.

Volkswagen Polo R Line features Kyalami cloth sports seats

The Match specification brings with it some nice features including six-speaker stereo with multi-device interface, air conditioning, multifunction trip computer, electric windows (all around on five-door models) and electrically operated and heated door mirrors, to name but a few.

If you think you can have one of the sporty engines to go with the sport looks, then think again. Unlike the European market version there is only one engine choice for the Polo R Line, the 1.2-litre 105 PS TSI petrol with six-speed manual gearbox. Performance might not be electrifying (0-62 mph in 9.7 seconds, top speed of 118 mph) but the TSI is a smooth engine with enough mid-range punch to propel the Polo along at a reasonable pace. It’s also rated at 53.3 mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 124 g/km.

Rear spoiler, side skirts and 16-inch alloys

So how much does the Polo R Line cost? Prices start at £15,195 on the road for the three-door model or £15,815 for the five-door. You can order one now with deliveries expect in July.
