Government agencies are usually seen as a barrier to the smooth and efficient handling of vehicle related queries, but in a surprising move there’s a new tool on the Government’s website that could prove very useful for car owners.

Have you ever had that moment where you realise, with increasing alarm, that you may have forgotten to tax your car? Or you can’t remember when the MOT was due but you have a nasty feeling that it was last Thursday?

Now you can try the new Vehicle Enquiry on the .gov.uk site and either put your mind at rest or confirm your worst fears. Simply enter the registration number and manufacturer name and it will tell you a raft of details, from your Tax and MOT expiry dates to the data of manufacture, colour and engine size.

Head on over to www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk and give it a try. It’s only at Beta testing stage at the moment but it seems to work quite well.
