Video: 2009 Skoda Fabia S2000 AWD In Action

Skoda have been a bit quiet on the motorsport recently. Having pulled the old Fabia out of the WRC they’ve not been seen a lot, but that doesn’t mean they’ve been resting on their laurels. No, they’ve been busy beavering away on a new Fabia to compete in the FIA’s Super 2000 category of the rally championship.

The concept was first revealed in 2007, but now the Fabia S2000 is almost ready for competition. Powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI engine from the Volkswagen parts bin, the super Fabia is also equipped with an Xtrac six-speed sequential transmission and three limited-slip differentials connected to its advanced four-wheel drive system. Brakes are upgraded too, with 355mm discs at the front and 300mm at the rear.

With any luck the Fabia S2000 will generate enough interest for Skoda to hurry up and start selling a new Fabia vRS, and inject a bit of colour into an otherwise bland range.
