Abarth 595 Turismo & Competizione

The new Abarth 595 is ready for its first public appearance at the 2011 Bologna motor show, alongside the Abarth Punto scorpione. The 595 is actually two models in one, offering a single mechanical package but with two different feel.

Common to both 595 models is the 1.4-litre turbocharged engine found in the standard Abarth 500. Power is increased to 160bhp using the engine modifications from the Esseesse kit, and torque climbs to a peak of 169 lb/ft. Top speed is 131mph and 0-62mph is dealt with in 7.4 seconds.

The 595 Turismo is the more flambouyant choice with distinctive two-tone paintwork. The Bologna show car flaunts metallic Rosso Officina and Grigio Pista livery with a white liner. It might not be to everyone’s taste, but it certainly stands out. Aluminium 595 Turismo logos adorn the side panels and boot lid, and titanium-coloured 17″ alloy wheels finish off the look.

The interior gets the full leather treatment and special flocked material is used to cover the central tunnel and dashboard. The pedal unit, kick plate and gearbox trim are made from Alutex aluminium glass fibre.

The leather wheel of the 595 Turismo features the paddles for operating the electric Competizione gearbox, a single-clutch sequential system that aims to reduce shift times.

The Competizione comes in metallic Grigio Record paint with 17″ titanium-coloured alloy wheels and yellow Brembo brake calipers. As with the Turismo the side panel and boot lid feature unique aluminium 595 and 595 Competizione logos.

The interior gets a set of smart Sabelt leather and alcantara sport seats, with the 595 logo embroidered into the headrest. The gear lever knob is made of Ergal, a special aluminium composite, while the kick plates, and pedals are made of aluminium

Extra Performance Upgrades

Both versions of the 595 can be specified with upgraded brakes and suspension. The brakes can be switched to perforated, self-ventilated front discs (diameter 284 mm x 22 mm) with perforated rear discs (diameter 240 mm x 11 mm), and high performance front brake pads.

To alter the ride, Koni shock absorbers with FSD valve can be fitted front and rear with optional bright red lowering springs to drop the ride height.

Will they be coming to the UK? That’s unknown at the moment, but personally I’d like to see both of these cars make it to our shores.
