Audi Previews TT With Design Sketches

It was sixteen years ago that Audi released their stunning TT and since then it’s remained one of the most coveted coupés on the market.

Now they’re ready to reveal the third generation of TT and, as you can see from these design sketches, they’re not straying far from that original successful formula.

The external changes are more about evolution than bold new design, but that’s been the hallmark of Audi cars for many years now. The designers talk of ‘tension’, ‘tornado lines’ and ‘dominant horizontals’. What that really means is that the new TT is a bit sharper than the second generation model. It also borrows some of the styling from the delightful R8, such as moving the four Audi rings from the grille onto the bonnet.

The wide wheelarches, a feature on that first generation of TT, remain. All models will feature a pair of large exhaust pipes sat either side of the rear diffuser, with the exception of the TTS which will boast four pipes.

Being the undisputed masters of car lighting, Audi have given the TT striking new designs at the front and rear. Those rear lights will also be permanently lit so drivers don’t have to switch their lights on to show off the new design. The headlights will also feature Audi’s new Matrix LED technology as an option, where individual LEDs make up the dipped and main beam.

The new TT is ready for its grand unveiling at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.
