The LEGO Speed Champions range is set for a new arrival in 2020 with the launch of the Nissan GT-R NISMO, paying tribute to the legendary Japanese supercar.
This is the first time that LEGO and Nissan have partnered up, allowing Nissan to join the likes of Ferrari, Ford, Bugatti, Porsche and Land Rover in the plastic brick-built Motoring Hall of Fame.
If you’re not familiar with the LEGO Speed Champions range, these are small scale replicas of iconic sports cars both new and old. Models such as the Ferrari F40, McLaren Senna, Porsche 911 Turbo, Chevrolet ZL1 Camaro and Dodge Challenger SRT have already featured as Speed Champions and the selection keeps on growing.
The Nissan GT-R NISMO marks a slight change in the design of the Speed Champions. This model is about 25% larger than those before it, allowing for more detail and a better replica of its real-life counterpart, and this will carry on to future Speed Champions. With 298 pieces this is the biggest and most intricate model of the range, although it falls short of the amazing 3,599-piece Bugatti Chiron.
“In LEGO Speed Champions, we always aim to include new types of racing vehicles. And when we focused on drifting and racing, the record-breaking Nissan GT-R, and especially the new GT-R NISMO, was at the top of our wish list. Authenticity is always our main concern, and we spent a lot of time exploring different building techniques to correctly recreate the taillights, as they are one of the most recognizable details on the car. I am really happy with the end result!”Chris Stamp, LEGO design lead
