One of my favourite hot superminis of recent times was the Suzuki Swift Sport and ever since the new model went on sale there’s been a Sport-sized hole in the model range.
That is set to change next year when the Swift Sport returns, with Suzuki set to show off the new model at the 2011 Frankfurt motor show in September.
The Sport should be easy to spot thanks to a number of enhancements. Lower ride height, bigger 3×5 spoke alloys, a larger front grille flanked by chrome-trimmed foglights and a rear spoiler all come together to give the Sport an air of performance.
Mechanical details are scarce but the new model will be powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre petrol M16A engine, just like its predecessor, mated to a six-speed manual garbox. The engine has been developed specifically for the Sport and should make it noticeably quicker than the lesser models.
Suzuki are promising improved handling thanks to new struts and an exclusive rear suspension setup. There will also be a new ESP system to improve traction and keep things tidy through the bends.
