The northern loop of the Nurburgring, or Nordschleife as it’s more commonly known, seems to have become an essential part of the development of any new performance car. Whether that makes it any more relevant to you and I, other than for bragging rights down the pub, is open to debate but like it or not the Nordschleife is the first battleground for manufacturers.

Now it looks like Honda are about to enter the fray with their next Type R. While this video shows us nothing more than the iconic badge being painted on the hallowed tarmac of the Nordschleife, it almost certainly means that the 2015 Civic Type R is going to be developed and tested at the ‘Ring.

Few details are known about the next hot Civic. It’s almost certainly going to be front-wheel drive and will follow all of its rivals by switching to a turbocharger for increased power, torque and reduced emissions. Expect 260-270bhp, most likely from a 2.0-litre.

Honda say they’ll tell us more about the Civic Type R at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month so stay tuned!
