Follow Happy

Here’s an interesting ad campaign from Honda for their new Civic. A short video of nothing more than a dog named Happy hanging his head out of a car window.

At first it’s not entirely obvious what the video is about. It contains no information, no call to action, no hard sell. It doesn’t even say what subject of the advert is, the only clue is the Honda logo at the end. I’ve already given the game away and told you it’s the Civic, but what little you get to see of that is largely blocked out by Happy’s flapping jowls.

It’s only when you click on the video that you find your way onto a special page on YouTube and it all starts to make sense. That’s when a mini-game loads up within YouTube and … well, I’ll not ruin the surprise for you but it’s a subtle and interesting way of advertising what Honda must consider to be one of the new Civic’s best features.
