At last – Renault have finally revealed the new Renaultsport Megane at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

Visually the new Renaultsport Megane is a great improvement on the old big-bottomed model and looks great in yellow. The design takes the standard coupe (or 3-door as non-marketing types call it) and adds some much needed visual flair with 18-inch alloy wheels, rear diffuser, centrally mounted exhaust and front LED running lights.

Under the bonnet is a new version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged unit that appeared in the previous Megane 225, but this time tuned to give 250bhp at 5500rpm and 340Nm of torque at 3000rpm. As with the new Clio 200, the Megane Renaultsport can be ordered with a choice of two chassis – standard or Cup. The Cup chassis sits lower on stiffer springs and comes with a limited-slip diff, a feature that has proven extremely effective on the Megane R26.R.

While this Megane RS might not have the firepower to battle the new 300bhp super hatch, the Ford Focus RS, it has got more than enough to take on the likes of the regular hot hatches such as the Focus ST, Astra VXR and upcoming Golf GTI. With 250bhp and the limited-slip diff of the Cup chassis, we may be looking at the best of the current breed.
