The hills are alive with the sound of the SEAT Leon Cupra R World Champion Edition. Yes, Switzerland is getting its own limited edition of SEAT’s fastest ever hot hatch.
Now the Swiss are not known for their love of the motor car, with strict enforcement of speed limits and some very tight regulation of noise and emissions, but for some reason they have been chosen to celebrate the 2009 success of the Leon Cupra in the World Touring Car Champion. This was the year in which SEAT dominated the championship when Gabriele Tarquini and Yvan Muller placed first and second in the driver’s championship, sealing the manufacturer’s crown for SEAT.
The Leon Cupra R is already SEAT’s fastest production car, thanks to its 265bhp 2.0-litre TSI engine, but in the World Champion Edition the power has been upped to 306bhp thanks to tuner Abt-Sportsline. There is also a sportier suspension setup and bigger brake discs, while the cabin gets Alcantara sport seats with checkered-flag trim and GPS navigation is fitted as standard.
Priced at 44,900 Swiss Francs (roughly 27,400 in shillings and sixpence), there will only be 200 Leon Cupra R World Champion Editions built, all to go on sale in Switzerland.
