Audi have released official pictures of the A1 Metroproject Quattro concept, their new small car that is intended to be a rival for the BMW MINI.
Due for release in 2009, the production version of the A1 will possibly feature a hybrid powertrain. A 1.4 TFSI petrol engine will provide around 150bhp to the front wheels while an electric motor will provide another 40bhp to the rear wheels. This setup will also allow the car to be driven using only the electric motor, with a range of 60 miles.
The big question … will we get to see an RS1? Maybe powered by the 200bhp 2.0 TFSI from the Golf GTi with Quattro drive and a DSG gearbox, that would certainly give the 172bhp Mini Cooper S something to worry about.
