One man. One job. But in the desert, nothing is simple.
This is the premise for the latest Ridley Scott film, Desire. Yes, that Ridley Scott, the famous Hollywood director who brought us Alien, Blade Runner and Prometheus.
Desire might not be heading to your nearest multiplex but this short film has the same high production values as the rest of of Scott’s work and you can watch it on any device that can connect to YouTube.
The lead actor is Damian Lewis, star of TV series Homeland, with support from Shannyn Sossamon (A Knight’s Tale, 40 Days And 40 Nights) and Jordi Molla (Colombiana, Bad Boys II, Blow), while the theme tune is provided by Lana Del Ray.
It’s quite a line-up for a short film but the real star is the new Jaguar F-Type. The bright red convertible is the centrepiece of what is, to put it bluntly, a very long car advert. It may be beautifully filmed, it may have well-known faces in it, but it’s still just an advert for a car. Hence the clunky dialogue when Lewis reels off the Jag’s specs.
But otherwise it’s a pretty good yarn that’s easily worth 13 minutes of your time.
Best bit? The glorious exhaust note at 6:03 as the F-Type accelerates towards the horizon. I would never, ever grow tired of a car that sounds as good as that.
