If there’s one thing the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG doesn’t need, it’s more power. With 360hp and 332lb/ft on tap it’s currently the most powerful hot hatch you can buy – and by a healthy margin.
However, if you’re a tuning house then it would be absurd to suggest you can never have enough power. The team at Mcchip-DKR are no exception and when the A45 AMG was released they immediately set to work on the turbocharged 2.0-litre.
The results of their work are three separate levels of tune. Starting at Stage One, Mcchip have found an extra 40bhp and 63lb/ft with just a simple remap of the ECU. That’s 400bhp and 395lb/ft in total.
Moving on to Stage Two involves swapping the catalytic converters. This results liberates an extra 20hp over the ECU remap but torque remains the same.
Finally, at Stage Three the turbocharger is fettled to release another 30bhp (now 450 hp in total) while torque goes up to 406 lb-ft. That’s a total increase of 25% power and 22% torque.
Mcchip also played around with the suspension setup by fitting a set of KW Clubsport coilovers, while the wheels were swapped for a set of 19-inch mbDesign KV1 wheels with Dunlop Sport Maxx Race tyres.
