The Mk6 Fiesta Zetec S was a popular little hatchback, combining moderate performance with a lively chassis and the promise of low running costs. If you wanted a cheap but fun hatchback the diesel was the one to go for with the promise of 60mpg. The only downside was it couldn’t match the pace of the thirstier petrol engine.
Well now it stands a better chance thanks to Mountune. They have picked the last model Zetec S for their first official diesel upgrade. Combining an ECU upgrade with a new K&N air filter, the Mountune MRD270 upgrade pushes the torque output of the 1.6-litre turbodiesel to an impressive 270Nm with power increasing from 90bhp to 113bhp.
Mountune haven’t released any official performance figures for the MRD270 but you can guarantee it will feel a lot more lively than the standard Zetec S. Not only is the engine more responsive, Mountune are also claiming that fuel economy is improved throughout the rev range, making it easier to justify the £375 charge for the upgrade.
As with all Mountune upgrades the MRD270 comes with a 12-month, 12,000 mile warranty and is available from all Mountune Ford PRO dealers. For more information visit the Mountune website.
