If you’re of a certain age you may remember an advert for the Peugeot 205 GTI that involved a Bond-esque driver, snow and ice, a Hercules plane, explosions, a ski ramp and an alluring Mademoiselle in a French châteaux.

Almost 3 decades later Peugeot have decided to pay tribute to that original advert for the new 30th Anniversary edition of the 208 GTI. This hotter version of the current GTI gate-crashes the 205’s video and proceeds to demonstrate that CGI stunts really are no substitute for the real thing.

OK, so it’s a bit tongue in cheek, but it does raise one question – how long until the Advertising Standards Authority take a dim view of barrel rolling a hot hatch over an Apache gunship? Surely this is the sort of thing the kill-joys at the ASA will frown upon?

If you’re interested in the 208 GTI 30th, the limited run of 100 cars goes on sale today at a price of £21,995. The big difference with the 30th edition is the new Torsen limited slip differential and an increase in the output of the 1.6-litre THP petrol engine to 208 hp and 300Nm. The black and red paintwork, or ‘Coupe Franche’ in Peugeot-speak, is optional.

Oh, and if you haven’t seen the original 1986 advert, here it is:
