Peugeot are celebrating the imminent arrival of the 208 GTI with a special Limited Edition model. With only 54 models being produced worldwide this will be a very exclusive version of the new hot hatch but the good news is that the UK gets the lion’s share, with 29 of the 54 coming to our shores.
Why 29? Because that’s how many years it is since the 1984 launch of the iconic 205 GTI. The UK was the 205 GTI’s biggest market and that’s why we get the biggest share of the 208 GTI Limited Edition.
So what makes this 208 GTI so special? Well, it’s certainly a handsome hatchback thanks to exclusive satin pearlescent white paint and 17-inch ‘Carbon’ Onyx Black alloys. The link to the UK is reinforced by a Union Jack flag on the lower part of the front grille. On the inside is a numbered plaque identifying which of the 29 you’ve just bought. Standard equipment will be boosted with the addition of satellite navigation and, in a first for Peugeot, a DAB Digital Radio.
Prices are set at £20,495 with production set for April 2013, ready for deliveries to start ahead of the 208 GTI’s official release date in late May. That price may be high but don’t expect these Limited Edition models to sit around in dealers for long. The 208 is proving to be incredibly popular with 11,000 orders placed since it went on sale earlier this year.
