Take a good look at the new Renault Clio S. Bringing back the badge that was popular in the ’90s, the Clio S looks pretty smart with its 16-inch Polar alloys. Add to that the white bumper inserts, ‘GT’ rear spoiler and racing stripes along the side and you’ve got a recipe for a sporty looking hatchback.
On the inside, there are ‘S’ logos embossed into the upholstery and a leather steering wheel, while the white theme is continued with the centre console, dashboard inserts and instrument dials. To finish the look there are tinted rear windows.
But don’t get too excited by all of the sporty looking paraphernalia because under the makeup this is nothing more than a three-door Clio Expression. The engine lineup is hardly inspiring, with a choice of 1.2-litre 16-valve with 75bhp, a 1.2-litre TCe with 100bhp and an 86bhp 1.5-litre dCi. Far from the stuff of a petrolhead’s dreams, but at least they’ll be insurable for younger drivers.
The new Clio S will set you back £11,209 on-the-road for the 1.2-litre 75bhp or as much as £13,458 for the diesel. It’s available now in a choice of four colours – Glacier White, Pearl Black, Capsicum Red and Extreme Blue.
