Renault have announced the price for their limited edition Clio Gordini 200, and I don’t think the word ‘bargain’ springs to mind.
They’re asking just short of £20k (£19,650 to be exact) for the Clio Gordini, which is a lot of cash for a small hatch, but on the other hand this is an exclusive and specced-up version of one of the best hot hatches on the market. Don’t forget that a standard Clio 200 Cup can be yours for just £16,710.
So what do you get for the extra money? The starting point is a standard Renaultsport Clio 200 with its 2.0-litre 197bhp engine and thoroughly entertaining Sport chassis. Then Renault add a special blue paint job with white racing stripes, an F1-style ‘blade’ incorporated into the front bumper, white wing mirrors and a unique set of 17-inch alloys with a polished face and black inner rim.
Inside there are Gordini branded sports seats trimmed in grey leather, with matching leather on the steering wheel. Blue detailing brightens up the doors and dashboard and there’s a black gloss finish on the centre console.
Additional spec over the basic Clio 200 includes climate control, curtain airbags, automatic headlights and wipers, cruise control, speed limiter, ESC, Bluetooth hands free system, USB connection, heated and electrically folding door mirrors, double optic headlamps with additional cornering lights, hands free card for automatic unlocking and engine start, and extra-tinted rear windows.
As with the Clio 200 there’s a choice of chassis setup. The standard Sport chassis is an excellent choice, but if you really want to attack the twisty bits then you’ll want the Cup chassis with its stiffer springs and lower ride height.
There will only be 500 Gordini Clios coming to the UK, and an individual plaque will display each car’s build number.
Options on the Gordini 200 include a choice of two other exterior colours – Pearl Black with white Gordini stripes or Glacier White with anthracite Gordini stripes and anthracite for the door mirrors and front blade. You can also choose to have the stripes left off if you don’t like them.
Other extras include:
- Gordini wheels with a blue inner rim (£100)
- Cup chassis (lower ride height, stiffer springs and dampers, red finish to the Brembo brake callipers, quicker steering rack – £410)
- Carminat TomTom satellite navigation (£460)
- rear parking sensors (£310)
- electric panoramic glass sunroof (£615)
The Clio Gordini 200 is available to order now and deliveries will begin in July.
