Are you in the market for a coupe and have a bit of a thing for stripes? If so you should take a look at the new Volkswagen Scirocco GTS. It was previewed in June at the Lepizig Motor Show and there’s been speculation ever since as to whether or not we’d be seeing it here in the UK. Well, we are and they’ll be available to order just as soon as Volkswagen showrooms re-open their doors after the Christmas break.
The GTS is based on the Scirocco R-Line but adds a few styling tweaks to make it stand out. A pair of either black or white stripes run the full length of the Scirocco’s body, from the edge of the bonnet, over the roof and down to the edge of the boot. Complementing the stripes are a pair of red or white-coloured door mirror caps. A set of 18-inch alloys are added, unique to the GTS, as well as a panoramic sunroof.
The colour of the stripes and mirror caps depend on which body colour you choose. Candy White gives you with black stripes and red door mirrors, Salsa Red uses black stripes with white mirrors, Deep Black Pearl has white stripes and red mirrors and Indium Grey comes with black stripes and red mirrors.
The cabin is upgraded with leather trim on the seats with red stitching and an embroidered GTS logo. The R Line underpinnings mean you get a touchscreen sat-nav and multimedia system with Bluetooth, dual-zone climate and the Scirocco’s adaptive chassis system.
Under the bonnet lies a choice of 210PS turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol (the same as the Golf GTI) or the new 177 PS version of the 2.0-litre diesel. Prices start at £27,945 for the petrol with a manual gearbox but you can add the 6-speed dual-clutch DSG to both engines.
