Well, here’s an oddity. After advertising a ‘light’ lager in a series of slightly strange and self-deprecating adverts, martial arts expert and serial arse-kicker Jean-Claude Van Damme has now turned his attention to the motoring world.
Here we see the Muscles from Brussels advertising the virtues of the new steering system fitted to Volvo trucks. Of course, it would be a waste of JCVD’s talents to sit him in a lorry cabin and ask him to navigate around a few cones. No, what we expect is a hint of danger. The chance of some personal injury. Volvo and JCVD don’t disappoint.
In a stunt that makes me wince at the thought of what might happen if it went wrong, we see Jean-Claude balanced on the wing mirrors of a pair of Volvo FM trucks. Nothing difficult about that, you may think, except that the lorries are moving. Backwards. Then they gracefully move apart, demonstrating that even in reverse Volvo’s trucks can be controlled with precision and that even at the age of 53 JCVD is still more flexible than I’ll ever be.
Just as impressive as the stunt itself is the fact that it was all recorded in one take. The team only had fifteen minutes to capture the film in the right light.
