The Wörthersee motor show is a big event for the German car makers, and Volkswagen are planning to take advantage to show off a couple of their latest concepts.
The first is a tarted up version of the brand new Polo. Painted in Flash Red and decorated with black stripes, the Wörthersee Polo is a good hint at what the next Polo GTI might look like. With 18-inch ‘Budapest’ polished alloy wheels and a sports exhaust the new Polo really does look good, although this concept is missing out on the tell-tale GTI red piping and honeycomb grill. The interior has received some special treatment thanks to special ‘sport comfort’ seats covered in black Nappa leather with contrasting white panels and red stitching.
Sadly there’s nothing new under the bonnet – just a 1.4-litre with 85bhp. Hopefully the real Polo GTI will have something a bit more useful than that.
While the Polo might be a GTI-wannabe, the Wörthersee Golf GTI is the real thing, but decked out in fancy “Firespark Metallic” red paint. The red-piping around the grill is the same colour, as are the red accents on the otherwise black 19-spoke alloy wheels. Inside are similar seats to the Polo, but this time with contrasting red panels and white stitching, while at the rear are some new smoked LED lights (surely a feature destined for future hot Golfs).
