If you can cast your mind back to the 1990s you may remember a version of the Renault 5 GT Turbo called the Raider. A limited edition of the 5, the Raider came with special paint, new alloys and remote central locking. Oh yes, it had a ‘plipper’!
Now, here we are in 2011 and the name is back. The Renaultsport Clio 200 Raider is another limited edition model of the Clio 200, hot on the heels of the Silverstone edition. Do you get the feeling that Renault are desperate to sell a few more cars before the all-new Clio arrives?
The Clio 200 Raider has special paint and alloys, just like the 5 Raider. Where the 5 had body-coloured 13-inch wheels the Clio gets a set of gloss black 18-inch ‘Interlagos’ wheels (up from 17-inch), wrapped in the same Bridgestone RE 050A tyres that helped the Megane 265 Trophy to achieve its record-breaking lap of the Nurburgring. If there was one thing the Renaultsport Clio wasn’t short of it was grip, but now it’s got even more!
The ‘special’ paintwork is a matt silver called Stealth Grey, which comes with contrasting gloss black roof, mirrors and front grille. Don’t want matt paint? You could always go for Diavolo Red instead.
As it’s a special edition the Clio Raider gets a few extra trinkets on the inside. Leather Recaros, Bluetooth, USB connectivity, automatic climate control and Renaultsport carpet mats are all included. You can also choose to have – at no extra cost – either the Renaultsport Monitor telemetry system or Carminat TomTom Live satellite navigation.
No prices yet, but the order books open in October.
Sweet. I’ll take one in silver please!
