Superchips have released yet another tuning package, this time for the R56 MINI Cooper S.
This is the for the 1.6-litre turbocharged version of the Cooper S, an engine that came in March 2010 with the ‘phase 2’ facelift, replacing the previous supercharged 1.6-litre.
Power is up by 25bhp to a total of 181bhp, with gains seen throughout the rev range from just 2,000rpm, so unlike a lot of upgrades you don’t have to constantly reach the rev limiter to make the most of the extra power. There’s more torque between 3,000 and 6,000rpm, with a maximum increase of 32Nm at 3,765rpm.
Superchips also claim that if you drive the Mini in a ‘like for like’ manner you should still be able to get close to the Mini’s official 48mpg, although in the real world you’ll be lucky to see anything like that.
The Superchips Mini Cooper S ECU remap is available at any of the Superchips performance centres (there’s around 80 of them dotted around the country) where trained technicians can undertake the remapping procedure. It’s priced at £445 (inc VAT) and includes a 12 month / 30,000 mile warranty to cover the work.
