Having revealed that the Chevrolet Lacetti is being mothballed as the Top Gear Reasonably Priced Car, speculation has been running wild as to what would replace it.
The replacement has got to be ‘reasonably priced’ which rules out Astons, Lambos and Ferraris, but there are quite a few cars that could fit the bill. Hyundai, Kia, Fiat and Suzuki have all got cars that could fit the bill, but sadly for James it can’t be the Dacia Sandero as that’s not available in Britain.
But thanks to some quick-witted photography from a studio guest and some great investigative work from the folks at VWVortex, it would appear that the new RPC is going to be a 5-door Kia Ceed. Look carefully under the wraps and compare it with the Ceed below and the lights, wheels and general shape seem to be a good match. The Ceed is also well priced for a mid-sized hatchback at £11,295 and comes with a seven year warranty.
So could this be the one, and will it be quicker than the Lacetti around the Top Gear track? Only one way to find out – tune in to Top Gear at 8.00 tonight.
The Stig gave the C’eed his approval so it must have some talent in the chassis. I’ve never driven one before, but I did have a drive in it’s predecessor the Cerato – a woefully horrible car to drive. It’s good to see that Kia are making better cars now.
As a Ceed owner myself i’ll be interested to see how much the lap times come down. It’s got a good chassis on it and holds the road well.
Looks like they were right – it was a Kia Cee-apostrophe-d!
