The Audi A3 has proved to be popular, but with the exception of the rip-snorting RS3 the rest of the range is a bit drab. So here comes the ABT AS3 to liven things up a bit.
The AS3 is a combination of engine tuning and styling accessories, and you can pick and choose what you want frmo the ABT range. Engine upgrades include a 160bhp version of the 1.4TSI (up from 125bhp) while the 1.8TSI is up from 180bhp to 210bhp. The biggest petrol unit, the 2.0TSI, is up to a thumping 240bhp. The two diesel 2.0-litre engines are also upgraded, now capable of 170bhp and 190bhp.
It’s not just the engines that have been upgraded on the AS3. ABT have fitted new suspension to lower the car by 35mm, and upgraded the brake discs with new 345mm items. There is also a new sports exhaust, with four pipes protruding frmo the rear.
Cosmetically it’s a typical ABT package, with new front and rear bumpers, sideskirts and a rear wing. Additionally you can choose new front wings that feature grooved insets behind the wheel. Top that off with some of ABT’s smart 18 or 19-inch wheels and a bit of LED lighting and you’ve got the makings for a very smart-looking Audi.
